Reducing the infant mortality rate in Uganda

Since 2011, the Solterre foundation has partnered with the Gulu Regional Referral Hospital (GRRH) to improve health services in Northern Uganda. This long-lasting collaboration has led to significant progress, especially in paediatric health services.

However, there is still a need for further action to significantly reduce the infant mortality rate, especially among children suffering from illnesses such as diarrhea, dysentery, septicemia, respiratory tract diseases, medium acute malnutrition and severe acute malnutrition. This objective is being pursued through the implementation of an integrated and comprehensive intervention strategy, which includes:

  • Activities aimed at raising public awareness, disseminating health education and facilitating early diagnosis. This is achieved through community awareness actions and the use of mobile health clinics.

  • Efficient response in the delivery of health services, achieved by upgrading facilities, strengthening data collection, increasing human resources provision and training healthcare professionals. Soleterre's specialised staff are providing training on nutrition, hygiene and psychological first aid.

The programme’s direct beneficiaries are the 1200 patients of the Gulu Regional Referral Hospital (GRRH) and their families, who are positively impacted by activities aimed at improving the quality of services provided by the hospital.
