Online platform for nutrition education

education_nutritionnelle.jpgFondation Dora has provided support in the development and running of an online communication and training platform for the promotion of the Nutricartes® method through other NGOs, Nutricartes® is a nutrition education method designed for mothers (and fathers).

Used in Madagascar since 2006, this approach was recently validated by an assessment carried out as part of a Master in Public Health at the University of Geneva.

Parents can learn to prepare balanced meals for their children through a fun, educational tool made up of photos of local produce. It is in fact the lack of knowledge on what makes a balanced diet that is one of the primary causes of malnutrition in children, as local habits tend to prioritise the overconsumption of grains (such as rice, millet and manioc) over proteins and fruits and vegetables.

The platform is primarily aimed at NGOs working in countries in the southern hemisphere and provides them with the Nutricartes® tool as a learning tool to complement their work. It was introduced online in early 2016 and provides interesting information, Nutricartes® games and training sessions for NGOs. Its goal is to build a community for sharing and exchange for those struggling against malnutrition (with a question forum, feedback and sharing experiences, assessment of results obtained and more) either on the website itself or through social media.

The Nutricartes® method was developed by L’APPEL, an international non-profit association founded in 1968 that carries out development projects to support children and their community in countries in the southern hemisphere.
